L. Scott "Tosh" Atkins, M.D., joined University Orthopaedic Clinic in 1997, after having already established himself as an orthopaedic surgeon in the Tuscaloosa community. Dr. Atkins practices general orthopaedics with a special interest in knee and shoulder disorders. A native of Tuscaloosa, Dr. Atkins received his medical training at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham and interned at the University of South Alabama. After completing his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of South Alabama, Dr. Atkins practiced two years in Tuscaloosa before joining UOC. Dr. Atkins is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Atkins has served as Assistant Team Orthopaedic Surgeon for the University of Alabama Athletic Department and as Associate Clinical Professor for the University of Alabama College of Community Health Sciences in Tuscaloosa. He has treated student athletes from the majority of West Alabama high schools and colleges. He and his wife, Missy, have four children, Hunter, Austin, Abbie, and Raegan.
