John P. Buckley, M.D., a founder of University Orthopaedic Clinic, received his medical training at the University of Cincinnati and interned at Cincinnati General Hospital. After completing a residency at the Mayo Clinic, he served in the U.S. Air Force as an orthopaedic surgeon for two years. In 1974, he moved to Tuscaloosa and established University Orthopaedic Clinic with Dr. H. Chester Boston, Jr.
Dr. Buckley became interested in orthopaedics when he had polio as a child. He is particularly interested in micro-vascular surgery and surgery of the hand and upper extremity. He completed a fellowship with the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in those areas. Dr. Buckley is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Today, he believes that the most satisfying aspect of his profession is being able to make his patients' daily lives more comfortable.
